The Greenery 2010 Year in Review

Now that the cold weather has finally arrived, we start to reflect back on the previous season.

Check out some of the photos below from The Greenery over this past growing season:

An early mild start to spring was a nice change to the previous year when we were still buried in snow as we opened our gates in March.

This made for a great growing season for Pansies and Primulas, and allowed people to start playing with their perennial gardens quite early.

From there we saw an abnormally cool May and June, making a very tough start for some of the more cold sensitive plants like Sweet Potato Vine, Coleus, Celosia, Cucumbers, and Melons.

Summer At The Greenery
Once summer arrived the valley began to enjoy some more average temperatures, allowing most plants to get well established or simply recover from the earlier, cooler weather.

Because the temperatures didn't climb to record breaking numbers during the summer, it actually made for one of the better growing seasons in recent memory. We still had enough sun and heat to give a great show from all the petunia species, but it was not overly hot for all the different basket stuffer and geranium families.

We were sent many positive comments on how incredible their geraniums performed this year- holding their colour very well in the summer and coming through even stronger as fall approached. We had bumper crops on most vegetables and berry plants, especially tomatoes -WOW!

And Then Comes Fall
As fall approached, we were pleasantly surprised with nice mild, dry sunny days allowing for one of the most beautifully coloured autumns we can remember. There were great showings from late blooming perennials such as Rudbeckias, upright Sedums, and Garden Mums.

We certainly enjoyed the amazing fall displays of colour in our yards, and to be still harvesting vegetables and berries from our gardens in late October was incredible.

We were very happy with the end of our outdoor growing season this year- and looking through all the fantastic entries in the blooming hall of fame contest it seems many other folks enjoyed the gardening season this year as well!
