Whether you have a balcony, deck, garden or community plot- growing your own vegetables is one of the most rewarding parts of gardening. We're secret tomato fanatics so be sure to check out our 100+ varieties on your next visit.
Even if your gardening space is limited or your garden space is a balcony or container, vegetable gardening is becoming more popular all the time. There are many choices you can make for a compact and easy to maintain vegetable garden. Many tomato varieties are especially easy to grow, whether in a planter pot, hanging basket or even in a topsy turvy. Some great examples of tomato varieties that are suitable for container growing are, Patio, Totem, Better Bush, Tumbler, Red Robin, Tumbling Tom, and many more. There are also some excellent mixed varieties of Lettuce or Mesculin that can easily be grown in containers.
If it is your first time growing a vegetable garden, we recommend planting or seeding some of the easier crops like Broccoli and Lettuce (plant very early -mid March for best quality), Tomatoes, Cucumbers, Peppers, Peas, Beans, Carrots, Potatoes and Corn (if your space permits). For the more advanced vegetable grower we would recommend Melons, Squash and Pumpkins (again space permitting), Onions, Leek, Cauliflower and Cabbage. As with all garden plantings, good deep watering and regular fertilizing is very important.
For adventurous vegetable gardeners, we carry over 20 varieties of Peppers, from sweet to extra, extra hot Caribbean Red Hots! And over 100 varieties of Tomatoes varying in shape, size and colour! We have pear, cherry, berry, plum and grape shaped tomatoes, extra large tomatoes and Heirloom varieties, ranging in colour from light yellow, to purple with yellow, pink, orange, red and striped in between!
