Specialty Perennials

Looking to fill in that garden bed with something special? We still have a nice selection of some specialty perennials that we have grown, originally from the breeding program of Terra Nova Nurseries--an outstanding source for new and exciting varieties and superior hybrids of old favourites for 22 years.

Acanthus 'Whitewater': This vigorous, variegated variety has striking, bold leaves with deeply cut white margins and splashing on the leaves. It forms a large clump with 4 foot tall showy flower stalks with pink and cream flowers in summer. Worthwhile growing even though not hardy for our zone, overwintering in a heated garage or shed. Found on table D3.

Actaea 'Black Negligee': Lacy black foliage just cloaks the lovely dark stems. Beautiful purple-tinted, white flowers project 2 feet upward and carry an exotic perfume of grape and jasmine. The most vigorous of all the dark varieties and hardy to zone 5. Look for this on table F6.

Geum 'Fire Storm':
This improved version of Geum Fireball has twice the flower power with half the plant size. This vigorous, yet compact and long blooming plant is easy to grow in almost any garden. Showcasing large, orange-yellow, semi-double flowers this variety is one of the most impressive orange blooming perennials in the Spring. Now starting to bloom on table F12.

Pulmonaria 'High Contrast':
Brilliantly contrasting foliage and large pink flowers that fade to blue. The wavy, spear shaped leaves are dark green, infused with melting silver and have a nice mounding habit.

Pulmonaria 'Moonshine':
Terra Nova's flashiest Pulmonaria, with great garden vigour, and a compact growth habit. Shimmering silver-white leaves are rounded with a thin edge of dark green beneath small, pale blue-white flowers.

All these Pulmonaria are hardy for our zone and offer vigorous growth habits with superior mildew resistance as well as heat and humidity tolerance. They are excellent for both hummingbirds and foraging honey bees in the early season. They can be found on table F9.
