A member of the World Association of Chefs Societies, Garratt serves as the Young Chef Ambassador for the organization. He also has apassion for feeding people, and not just those who come to his restaurant.

Garratt is a supporter of the Kelowna Foodbank, and says when he goes there, the need is obvious.

"Every time I go there, there is always something devastating that eats at me."

He says there has got to be a better way, so this year, with the help of The Greenery, Garratt plans to teach 50 at risk families in Kelowna to grow their own food, beginning with a tomato plant.

"On May 11, I'm going to go down to the foodbank, I've contacted The Greenery in Kelowna and they have been generous and donated 50 plants and the buckets and dirt. The foodbank will get some families to attend and I'll teach them how to grow a tomato plant in a bucket in their own backyard."

His aim is to get children to eat real foods as opposed to processed.
