Large Zonal Geraniums

What's this 4" pot doing in my Zonal Geranium basket?

We have had many inquiries regarding the 4" round pot that is inserted in the centre of the 10" Zonal Geranium baskets. When transplanting the 10" baskets into larger containers, the pot is intended to allow customers to plant centrepiece plants without disturbing the roots of the Geraniums. These middle pots can create a quick and complete planter for a sunny location.

Some example centrepiece plants are Dracaena Spike or ornamental grass like Purple Fountain Grass.

If you do not want to add a centrepiece plant, simply remove the pot and replace empty space with soil.

Landscape Coleus for Shade in the Okanagan

When people think of landscape plants for adding colour to their yards. prolific bloomers often come to mind right away. But don't forget that some landscape plants make a colourful statement not with flowers, but with foliage!

Our Landscape Coleus is a great example. Coleus, although it does bloom, is grown as a foliage plant, not for it's flower. Traditionally a shade plant, there are now types of coleus that can be grown in partial sun. We have an excellent selection of Landscape Coleus and Kong Coleus,a newer seed variety with huge, colourful, broad leaves on compact plants.

Add Some WOW! With Vegetative Petunias

If you missed out on some of our newer, unique vegetative mounding petunias, or if you just need something special to fill in that space you noticed, we are bring our last planting of Petunias out this weekend.

For a WOW effect, try out Crazytunia Knight Rider with yellow and purple bicolor flowers. To put your garden in the spotlight, Sweetunia Orange Flash, Flashmob Bluerific, and/or Flashmob Redtastic will have you shimmering with delight.

The returning stars of our Vegetative program are POTUNIAS! These newer types of petunias have all the benefits of the regular trailing varieties such as self-cleaning (no dead-heading), self-branching (no pinching or cutting back), and prolific flowers all summer long, all wrapped up in a more compact, controlled habit, perfect for pots or beds.

Bleeding Hearts

There is a nice selection of perennial Dicentra (Bleeding Hearts) out in selling section E and F (table E1 and table F5). One of the most popular of old-fashioned garden plants, Bleeding Hearts burst into flower in late Spring.

The plants form a bushy, upright mound of dainty light green foliage that appears to be somewhat fern-like at a glance. Dangling lockets of flowers are held on arching stems and make excellent cut flowers. Try venturing away from the conventional light pink varieties and grow Dicentra "Goldheart", or a miniature variety like "King of Hearts" in your shaded garden bed!

P.S. We are now eating lettuce from our garden for two weeks, and we also harvested broccoli this week, no bugs so far.
